Opportunity Program
In the coming months, you may receive a call out or email to request that your student stay after school the following day for the ‘Opportunity Program’.
We thought it would be helpful to provide some information about the purpose and schedule of the program.
What is Opportunity Program?
Opportunity Program is an opportunity for your student to complete missing assignments with the encouragement and support of school staff.
How is Opportunity Program assigned to students?
Opportunity Program is an afterschool session that can be assigned by one of your child’s teachers if they have a number of missing assignments for that class.
What is the schedule and how will we be notified?
Opportunity Program will be held every Tuesday and Thursday afterschool from 2:45-3:30. If your child is referred to an Opportunity Program session, the child will be notified the day before and a call out will be sent to your home the evening before the session afterschool. This session will be an opportunity to complete the missing work. A student may be referred again in the future by one of their teachers, if other assignments are not completed.
We understand that sometimes there are schedule conflicts, but we appreciate every effort you could make to be sure your child stays after school the following day to get the assistance they need. Opportunity Program is led by Chávez staff members. These sessions are not tutoring sessions. If your child has tutoring needs, they should make an appointment with their teacher to access whatever tutoring help is available or make an appointment with their counselor to access other resources
